Zaffar Akbar Bhat Demanding release of the pro-freedom Leaders.

Zaffar Akbar Bhat Demanding release of the pro-freedom Leaders.
Demanding release of the pro-freedom leaders, senior Hurriyat Conference (M) Zafar Akbar Bhat,Javid Mir, and, advocate Shahid-ul-Islam on Wednesday warned that if the government continued with its ‘autocratic polices’ ‘the next generation of Kashmir would be forced to pick guns again. Mir, Shahid and Bhat were among the first youth in Kashmir who picked up guns in late 80’s for the grant of right to self-determination to Kashmiris. Talking to Greater Kashmir, on Wednesday, they said the situation was similar to early 80’s. “The black history has been repeated. People are not even allowed to register their protest peacefully and they are treated like criminals. If the government continues with its autocratic policies, the next generation of Kashmir will be forced to pick up guns again,” they said. The present government, they said, had sought votes from people in the name of releasing all the pro-freedom leaders including ailing Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Shah, Masarat Alam Nayeem Khan, Aasiya Andrabi, Muhammad Salim Nanaji and others. “However, after assuming power, the present government has put senior pro-freedom leadership behind bars. They had only raised their voice against the rape and murder of Aasiya and Neelofar, and it is no crime. If it is a crime, then the government should arrest all the people who took to the streets in lakhs to protest against the heinous crime,” they said. They said hundreds of youth, including teenagers who were arrested during the Amarnath land row last year and Shopian incident were languishing in various jails of Jammu. They said an activist of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Fahmeeda Sofi, a PUC student, has been kept with criminals in Amphala sub-jail in Jammu. “She is treated like a criminal. This is not democracy but sheer political vengeance,” they added. They strongly condemned the recent statement of a senior police officer that no pro-freedom leaders would be released. “The officer has extended his brief. It seems he is hell bent upon to impose martial law in the state whereas this is already a police state.” Asking New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris, they reminded its leadership of the promise of plebiscite made by first Indian prime minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. “The Indian leadership should understand that despite using cheap tactics to suppress the sentiments of Kashmirs by killing and harassing them since 1947, they have failed to deter their resolve to achieve freedom,” they added. They said for earlier resolution of Kashmir, we had launched a peaceful political struggle in late ‘90’s. “But we were harassed and put behind bars several times. New Delhi cannot hamper the movement by pressurizing the leadership.” they said adding, “The countless graveyards across the Valley stand testimony to the objective of Kashmiris,” they added.

Zaffar AKbar Bhat in a statement while thanking Pakistan government for extending moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiris said Pakistan is making great efforts to attract attention of people across the world towards rights violations by Indian forces in Kashmir. He said Kashmiri freedom struggle is an indigenous struggle and the Kashmiris continue their struggle amidst great hurdles. He said that Kashmiris have suffered Indian atrocities for the last 62 years adding that Pakistan would continue its support for Kashimiris. Researchers from the Association of Parents of Disappeared People, or APDP, says at least eight of the graves held more than one body. "We have found more graves of about 1,500 people buried as unidentified in three remote districts during our ongoing survey," Pervez Imroz, the group's lawyer, told The Associated Press in an interview Thursday. "We've found that at least eight are mass graves as they contain more than one body." The latest report from the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipore is part of the APDP's ongoing survey of the northern parts of Kashmir valley.

Authorities trying to cover up the Shopian tragedy

Authorities trying to cover up the Shopian tragedy
APHC leader and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zaffar Akbar Bhat has said that the authorities were trying to shield the culprits of Shopian incident and that is why they are handing over it to India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He viewed that the authorities were trying to mislead and hoodwinking the people and hushing up the factual position about the Shopian case.
Bhat while urging India to hold referendum in Kashmir described the Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh’s remarks that the recent so-called elections in Jammu and Kashmir showed that the liberation ideology had no place here as unrealistic and ridiculous.
