Ahead of UN March, Police raid APHC office - APHC leaders Bhat, Tari arrested

Ahead of the March call to the United Nations Military Observers Group in Srinagar given by the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Police raided and sealed the Hurriyat office at Rajbagh and arresting senior Hurriyat leaders Muhammad Abdullah Tari and Zaffar Akbar Bhat late night.
Hurriyat announced a March call towards UNMOGIP office at Sonawar and demand action against the perpetrators of human rights violations in Kashmir. However, police and troopers sealed the Hurriyat headquarters to thwart any attempt of the conglomerate to march on Monday and arrested Acting President of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Muhammad Abdullah Tari and Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement; Zafar Akbar Bhat was arrested by the police Sunday evening.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Agha Hassan Al-Moosvi, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Hurriyat activists were placed under house arrest besides several other Hurriyat leaders.
Shahuidul Islam said police was raiding different places in the city and had arrested several Hurriyat activists to thwart the Monday March.
Several hundred people took to streets at Nishat, and staged a protest at Kralsangri locality demanding immediate action against the troopers involved in the killing.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments in Srinagar remained closed for the seventh day, today.
Chairman of Salvation Movement Zaffar Akbar Bhat and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yaseen Malik visited the residence of Zahid soon af
ter the authorities relaxed the restrictions for sometime.
“The killing of Zahid is another example of the reign of terror unleashed by the Indian troops here,” said Malik while addressing a gathering at Zahid’s residence. Malik said that the forces who killed Zahid cab never be humans. He said that this was a clear case of murder and the people of the area should remain united and fight to expose the criminals and murderers.
The sacrifices of martyrs will never go waste and people should continue to protest peacefully against such killings of innocents
, said Bhat and Malik.
Paying tributes to Zahid Bhat, the leaders said The killing is part of a pre-planned conspiracy against the people of Kashmir who demand complete demilitarization of Kashmir.
The authorities also banned the SMS news services on Sunday. According to one of the service provider, Valley Media Service, the ban was imposed without any prior information.
“Our incoming and outgoing SMS were barred. Authorities should ban the unscrupulous elements in the field not the genuine players,” said Jasim Rasool of VMS.
